    School Lunches

Who can visit my child for lunch?

Starting October 13thevery Friday families are allowed to eat lunch in the cafeteria

District guidelines limit lunchroom visitors at the elementary level to parents, immediate family members with written permission from a parent, and campus mentors. Immediate family members are defined as the student’s parents/step-parents, siblings, grandparents, or any person residing in the home. A parent can list the person(s) who have permission to have lunch for the entire school year.  If anyone other than the parent(s) listed as guardians in our district e-school system is eating with the child, we will need written documentation of your approval.

    Dismissal

If you change the way your child goes home at the end of the day, please email your teacher.  Children will be sent home their "usual" way unless we hear directly from a parent.  Also, please make sure that the teacher has responded to your email to ensure that we got the message.  If you don't hear back from your teacher, please call the office to let them know about dismissal changes.

    Birthday Treats

We will celebrate your child’s birthday with a spotlight on our daily school-wide announcements and a goody bag from the school that contains several items, including a coupon for a free treat in the cafeteria.

If you choose to send birthday food treats to school, they will need to be in their original packaging that lists the ingredients.  Please send the treats to our school nurse.  She will look over the ingredients and then deliver them to your child's homeroom class.  These treats will be sent home with the learners at the end of the day for them to enjoy at home.

    Volunteering

If you think you would like to volunteer at TCE this year, please fill out the volunteer background check.  The sooner the better!  You can find information about how to fill out the form and the actual form on our TCE webpage. What will we be learning next week?

    Language Arts

**During the first few weeks of school we will be completing our individual preassessments for first grade language arts.

Reading:    We will work on building our stamina when reading.  Building stamina requires focus while reading self selected texts for increasing periods of time.  We will also talk about good reading habits.  We will learn how to "scoop up phrases" like a spoon! We will also be reviewing the 38 kindergarten snap words.

Writing:    We are in full swing with our writing journals.  Next week we will be working hard on remembering everything we learned in kindergarten about finger spaces, capitals, and punctuation.  We will use strategies to help us sound out words to spell when writing.

Grammar/Phonics:  We will continue to review kindergarten standards with Heggerty Phonics program.  We are learning a lot about building and splitting apart compound words.  For example, do you know what happens to the word airplane if you change "plane" to "port"?

    Math

Next week, we will continue to subitize numbers.  Please see the links below to practice subitizing at home. We will also represent numbers up to 20 in standard form, expanded form, and word form.

Fun videos to watch with your child:

    Science
We will continue using science tools safely in order to make observations and how we can record these in our science journals.

Social Studies   We will continue to talk about citizenship and rules.  We will discuss what it means to be a good citizen of a classroom and a community.
