What will we be learning next week?

Language Arts

Reading:    We will start on our new set of snap words.  There are 22 words to learn for the second grading period.  Your language arts teacher sent a list of the sight words home at your conference.  Please use this list for extra practice at home on being able to read the second list of words "in a snap". Don't forget to practice the first list as well!

Writing:    We will dive into our "How To" writing unit.  This writing unit helps us use a multitude of transition words to tell how to do something in sequential order.

Phonics/Grammar:  Our spelling rule with be the short /e/ sound.  We will also begin to talk about alphabetical order using the first and second letters of words.

Math

We will focus on subtraction strategies and review our addition strategies to help us remember our facts.   We will continue to compose and decompose numbers while solving addition and subtraction problems.

Math Activities to do with your child

Say 5 numbers 2, 12, 22, 32, 42.  Ask your child to tell you the next 5 numbers

Please count with your child daily from any given number. :-) Your child has been working on counting to 120 by fives and tens.   Let them show you!  :-)

Skip count by tens from any given number up to 120 or beyond.  25, 35, 45, 55, ...

Have your child pick a two-digit number.  Ask them to tell you what is 10 more or 10 less.    Have a discussion with your child.  Here are some questions you can ask. What is one more and one less?  Is it even or odd?  How many tens does your number have?  Can you tell me the expanded form?  What digit is in one place, etc.?

Fun videos to watch with your child:

Science
We will be learning about the different types of energy, (sound, light, and heat) and how we use these in our everyday lives

**We are starting to collect empty toilet paper and paper towel rolls for Science. You can send them with your learner over the next couple weeks to give to their Science teacher. Thank you!!!**

Social Studies

We will continue to talk about our government leaders.  We will also talk about the voting process and how our leaders are chosen in our government.

The deadline to sign up for a basket is October 20th, 2023.

Please completely fill out the following form by clicking this link: 2023 St. Ann's Thanksgiving BasketsYou may contact Nurse Crenshaw with any questions at kcrenshaw@coppellisd.com or 214-496-7816.

Great Information To Know

    • Please remember to send your child's Ipad to school every day.  Also, please make sure that it is charged every evening.  Thank you!!
    • Please make sure to look at your child's daily behavior calendar.  Our goal is for the children to color in the day with the appropriate behavior.  Many times, the children forget.  If it is not colored, please assume it is a great day.  If you see a teacher comment, we would love for you to have a conversation with your child about what happened to receive the comment.  Please know many warnings were given before a comment was written. :-)
    • Please review and take out all papers from their take-home folder each day.

    Teacher Emails

The best way to get in touch with your teacher is by email.  Please email the teacher that can best answer the subject of your question. If it is a general question, please email your homeroom teacher.

    School Lunches

Who can visit my child for lunch?

Starting October 13thevery Friday families are allowed to eat lunch in the cafeteria

District guidelines limit lunchroom visitors at the elementary level to parents, immediate family members with written permission from a parent, and campus mentors. Immediate family members are defined as the student’s parents/step-parents, siblings, grandparents, or any person residing in the home. A parent can list the person(s) who have permission to have lunch for the entire school year.  If anyone other than the parent(s) listed as guardians in our district e-school system is eating with the child, we will need written documentation of your approval.

    Dismissal

If you change the way your child goes home at the end of the day, please email your teacher.  Children will be sent home their "usual" way unless we hear directly from a parent.  Also, please make sure that the teacher has responded to your email to ensure that we got the message.  If you don't hear back from your teacher, please call the office to let them know about dismissal changes.

    Birthday Treats

We will celebrate your child’s birthday with a spotlight on our daily school-wide announcements and a goody bag from the school that contains several items, including a coupon for a free treat in the cafeteria.

If you choose to send birthday food treats to school, they will need to be in their original packaging that lists the ingredients.  Please send the treats to our school nurse.  She will look over the ingredients and then deliver them to your child's homeroom class.  These treats will be sent home with the learners at the end of the day for them to enjoy at home.

    Volunteering

If you think you would like to volunteer at TCE this year, please fill out the volunteer background check.  The sooner the better!  You can find information about how to fill out the form and the actual form on our TCE webpage. This needs to be done each. year.  You will need a background check to help in the classroom, field trips, field day, etc.
