What will we be learning next week?

Language Arts

**During the first few weeks of school we will be completing our individual preassessments for first grade language arts.

Reading:    We will continue to enjoy read alouds and review parts of a book.  We will also review kindergarten sight words.

Writing:     We will review sentence structure, beginning capitalization, and ending punctuation.  We will introduce journals by starting with some free writing.

Grammar/Phonics: We will review the difference between letters, words, and sentences.  We will also start our daily routine in our Heggerty Phonics curriculum and learn how to break apart words into phonemes (individual sounds in words)

Math

Next week we will learn to subitize (instantly recognize a group of objects).  For example, when you see three dots, you do not have to count each individual dot.  Instead, you instantly know that there are three dots.  This is called subitizing.

Fun videos to watch with your child:

Science

We will be learning what it means to be a scientist.  We will also work with science tools in a safe way to explore the world around us.

Social Studies

Next week will begin our 5 week citizenship unit.  We will talk about what it means to be a good citizen at school.   We will review rules and talk about friendships and kindness at school.

Weekly Announcements

  • If you haven't sent in school supplies for your child, please send them in on Monday.
  • If you would like to donate any extra supplies to your child's classroom, we are always in need of:
    • lysol wipes
    • baby wipes
    • dixie cups
    • plastic spoons and forks
    • paper plates

Great Information To Know

    • Please remember to send your child's Ipad to school every day.  Also, please make sure that it is charged every evening.  Thank you!!
    • Please make sure to look at your child's daily behavior calendar.  Our goal is for the children to color in the day with the appropriate behavior.  Many times, the children forget.  If it is not colored, please assume it is a great day.  If you see a teacher comment, we would love for you to have a conversation with your child about what happened to receive the comment.  Please know many warnings were given before a comment was written. :-)
    • Please review and take out all papers from their take-home folder each day.

    Teacher Emails

The best way to get in touch with your teacher is by email.  Please email the teacher that can best answer the subject of your question. If it is a general question, please email your homeroom teacher.

    School Lunches

Who can visit my child for lunch?

Starting October 13th, every Friday families are allowed to eat lunch in the cafeteria

District guidelines limit lunchroom visitors at the elementary level to parents, immediate family members with written permission from a parent, and campus mentors. Immediate family members are defined as the student’s parents/step-parents, siblings, grandparents, or any person residing in the home. A parent can list the person(s) who have permission to have lunch for the entire school year.  If anyone other than the parent(s) listed as guardians in our district e-school system is eating with the child, we will need written documentation of your approval.

    Dismissal

If you change the way your child goes home at the end of the day, please email your teacher.  Children will be sent home their "usual" way unless we hear directly from a parent.  Also, please make sure that the teacher has responded to your email to ensure that we got the message.  If you don't hear back from your teacher, please call the office to let them know about dismissal changes.

    Birthday Treats

We will celebrate your child’s birthday with a spotlight on our daily school-wide announcements and a goody bag from the school that contains several items, including a coupon for a free treat in the cafeteria.

If you choose to send birthday food treats to school, they will need to be in their original packaging that lists the ingredients.  Please send the treats to our school nurse.  She will look over the ingredients and then deliver them to your child's homeroom class.  These treats will be sent home with the learners at the end of the day for them to enjoy at home.

    Volunteering

If you think you would like to volunteer at TCE this year, please fill out the volunteer background check.  The sooner the better!  You can find information about how to fill out the form and the actual form on our TCE webpage. This needs to be done each. year.  You will need a background check to help in the classroom, field trips, field day, etc.

    Photos From The Week

After the front office staff provides us with our "photo permission" information, we will be posting pictures from the week here.  Stay tuned!!

If you want to see pictures of your child here, please make sure that you have granted permission for this.  This can be done by contacting the front office.  You can email Mrs. Fairchild at lfairchild@coppellisd.com.  You must select "all".  If you have selected "printed only" then we will not be able to share pictures of your child in the blog.  Thanks!
