What will we be learning next week?
Language Arts
Reading: We will continue to notice and correct reading mistakes by using our reading strategies and good reading habits.
SNAP Words for 1st Grading Period- his, said, saw, say, then, they, but, let, run, us, yes, here, went.
**Your child should be able to quickly read (in a snap) each of the SNAP words.
Writing: We will finish up any loose ends of our writing unit and then we will begin our "How To" writing unit. Our "How To" unit will help us organize our writing by thinking in sequential steps that help us complete a task.
Phonics/Grammar: Due to our shortened week next week, we will not have a spelling pretest or test. We will spend our week reviewing some short vowel sounds. We will also review sentence structure and make sure that we write in full sentences and not sentence fragments.
Math
We will focus on addition strategies to help us remember our facts. Learners will also be generating a number greater than or less than a given number up to 20. We will continue to compose and decompose numbers while solving addition and subtraction problems.
Math Activities to do with your child:
- Please count with your child daily from any given number. :-) Your child has been working on counting to 120 by tens. Let them show you! :-)
- skip count by tens /skip count by tens from any given number up to 120 or beyond.
- Have your child pick a two-digit number less than 20 and have them tell you what is 10 more or 10 less. For those of you who want a challenge, have them pick a two-digit number greater than 20. Have a discussion with your child. Here are some questions you can ask. What is one more and one less? Is it even or odd? How many tens does your number have? Can you tell me the expanded form? What digit is in the one place, etc.
Social Studies
We will learn more about American symbols (American Flag, Texas Flag, Statue of Liberty, Bald Eagle). Next week we will also learn about our government leaders (mayor, governor, president) and how their jobs affect our lives.
Weekly Announcements
- Please don't forget to charge your child's iPad nightly. We do not have chargers at school to charge numerous iPads. Thanks!
Great Information To Know
- Please remember to send your child's Ipad to school every day. Also, please make sure that it is charged every evening. Thank you!!
- Please make sure to look at your child's daily behavior calendar. Our goal is for the children to color in the day with the appropriate behavior. Many times, the children forget. If it is not colored, please assume it is a great day. If you see a teacher comment, we would love for you to have a conversation with your child about what happened to receive the comment. Please know many warnings were given before a comment was written. :-)
- Please review and take out all papers from their take-home folder each day.
Teacher Emails
The best way to get in touch with your teacher is by email. Please email the teacher that can best answer the subject of your question. If it is a general question, please email your homeroom teacher.

School Lunches
Who can visit my child for lunch?
Starting October 13th, every Friday families are allowed to eat lunch in the cafeteria.
District guidelines limit lunchroom visitors at the elementary level to parents, immediate family members with written permission from a parent, and campus mentors. Immediate family members are defined as the student’s parents/step-parents, siblings, grandparents, or any person residing in the home. A parent can list the person(s) who have permission to have lunch for the entire school year. If anyone other than the parent(s) listed as guardians in our district e-school system is eating with the child, we will need written documentation of your approval.
Dismissal
If you change the way your child goes home at the end of the day, please email your teacher. Children will be sent home their "usual" way unless we hear directly from a parent. Also, please make sure that the teacher has responded to your email to ensure that we got the message. If you don't hear back from your teacher, please call the office to let them know about dismissal changes.
Birthday Treats
We will celebrate your child’s birthday with a spotlight on our daily school-wide announcements and a goody bag from the school that contains several items, including a coupon for a free treat in the cafeteria.
If you choose to send birthday food treats to school, they will need to be in their original packaging that lists the ingredients. Please send the treats to our school nurse. She will look over the ingredients and then deliver them to your child's homeroom class. These treats will be sent home with the learners at the end of the day for them to enjoy at home.
Volunteering
If you think you would like to volunteer at TCE this year, please fill out the volunteer background check. The sooner the better! You can find information about how to fill out the form and the actual form on our TCE webpage. This needs to be done each. year. You will need a background check to help in the classroom, field trips, field day, etc.

Recess!
Science
What would happen to a cup of water if you put it in the freezer? What about a cup of hand sanitizer? or corn syrup? We borrowed Ms. Star's freezer to help us with our science investigation.
