What will we be learning next week?
Language Arts
Reading: Our learners continue to amaze us with their reading ability and their ability to use the reading strategies to solve tricky words. We will finish up our unit on reading poetry and continue learning how to visualize the poems that we read.
Writing: We are concentrating on sentence structure and making sure that we have noun/verb agreement when writing. We have loved learning about the parts of speech! We will finish up our unit on writing poetry. Look for their poetry folders coming home!
Phonics/Grammar: We will continue our study of the glued sounds /ing/ /ang/ /ong/ /ung/ /ink/ /ank/ /onk/ /unk/ . We will have a spelling test over these sounds on Friday, December 8th.
Unit 2 SNAP Words: big, eat, make, take, have, out, came, same, home, more, not, of, put, your, I'm, into, little, now, three, if, or, read. **Your child should be able to read all of these words "in a snap". If your child is having difficulty reading these, please help at home by making flashcards and going over them daily. Your child will be assessed on these words for our next report card.
Reading at Home: Providing your child reading time each night, allows them the opportunity to practice their reading strategies and grow in fluency. Reading books, being read to, and the Kids A-Z (raz kids) app are all great tools to use.
Math
Learners will collect, sort, and organize data in three categories using models/representations such as tally marks and T-charts. Learners will also continue to write and solve their own action word problems with the unknowns in any position as well as continue to work on how to solve action word problems (addition or subtraction with unknowns in any position)
Math Activities to do with your child
Science
We will identify and describe a variety of natural sources of water including streams, lakes, and oceans.
Social Studies
We will enjoy listening to our friends present their culture/tradition! It is so much fun listening to different celebrations that each family has. This is one of our favorite units!

Great Information To Know
- We are noticing more learners are coming without fully charged iPads. Please make sure you're charging them every night AND sending the charger to school each day! Thank you for your help with this!
- Please make sure to look at your child's daily behavior calendar. Our goal is for the children to color in the day with the appropriate behavior. Many times, the children forget. If it is not colored, please assume it is a great day. If you see a teacher comment, we would love for you to have a conversation with your child about what happened to receive the comment. Please know many warnings were given before a comment was written. :-)
- Please review and take out all papers from their take-home folder each day.
Teacher Emails
The best way to get in touch with your teacher is by email. Please email the teacher that can best answer the subject of your question. If it is a general question, please email your homeroom teacher.

School Lunches
Every Friday families are allowed to eat lunch in the cafeteria.
District guidelines limit lunchroom visitors at the elementary level to parents, immediate family members with written permission from a parent, and campus mentors. Immediate family members are defined as the student’s parents/step-parents, siblings, grandparents, or any person residing in the home. A parent can list the person(s) who have permission to have lunch for the entire school year. If anyone other than the parent(s) listed as guardians in our district e-school system is eating with the child, we will need written documentation of your approval.
Dismissal
If you change the way your child goes home at the end of the day, please email your teacher. Children will be sent home their "usual" way unless we hear directly from a parent. Also, please make sure that the teacher has responded to your email to ensure that we got the message. If you don't hear back from your teacher, please call the office to let them know about dismissal changes.
Birthday Treats
We will celebrate your child’s birthday with a spotlight on our daily school-wide announcements and a goody bag from the school that contains several items, including a coupon for a free treat in the cafeteria.
If you choose to send birthday food treats to school, they will need to be in their original packaging that lists the ingredients. Please send the treats to our school nurse. She will look over the ingredients and then deliver them to your child's homeroom class. These treats will be sent home with the learners at the end of the day for them to enjoy at home.
Volunteering
If you think you would like to volunteer at TCE this year, please fill out the volunteer background check. The sooner the better! You can find information about how to fill out the form and the actual form on our TCE webpage. This needs to be done each. year. You will need a background check to help in the classroom, field trips, field day, etc.
