Weekly Announcements

1st Grade Author Visit

Hi First Grade families,

Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Vincenzo and I are excited to announce that author, Isabelle Engler, has agreed to come to our school on February 5th and speak about her book Lunar New Year.  We are lucky to have her come to speak with 1st Grade, since we recently have studied different Cultural Celebrations and Traditions in social studies. Her visit will also coincide with Lunar New Year!

The book, Lunar New Year, is a bilingual singable book with a traditional nursery rhyme retold and reimagined.  Readers can sing along in English, Mandarin with Pinyin.  Easy to follow colored keys guide enables children to play the song on the piano.  The book is about love and connections through family traditions.  Below is a link to the author's website.

https://musicandtales.org/books

If you would like to preorder a copy of the book, please send $20.00 cash or check made out to TCE.  All preorders must be received by Friday, February 2nd.  Ms. Engler will sign all preordered books.

Please let me or your child's reading teacher know if you have questions.  Thank you! -Mrs. Mancuso

  • At the end of the last grading period, we noticed that many learners are coming to school with iPads that are not fully charged.  Please don't forget to charge your child's iPad nightly.
  • As the weather turns colder, please make sure your child wears a jacket to school.  We will be going outside on cold days.  We will follow district protocol on when we need to have indoor recess because of temperatures . Also, please write your child's name in the label of the jacket.  Lost and Found gets full in the winter!
  • Don't forget to send a quick snack with your child each day.  We all get pretty hungry in the afternoon.

Great Information To Know

    • Please make sure to look at your child's daily behavior calendar.  Our goal is for the children to color in the day with the appropriate behavior.  Many times, the children forget.  If it is not colored, please assume it is a great day.  If you see a teacher comment, we would love for you to have a conversation with your child about what happened to receive the comment.  Please know many warnings were given before a comment was written. :-)
