What will we be learning next week?
Language Arts
- Reading - We are at that time of the year where we are just reading, reading, reading! We have so many different types of genres in our book bags/book boxes. We are learning to love them all! We are learning how to read non-fiction text. We are learning about the Table of Contents, Glossaries, and what an Index is used for.
- Writing - We will begin our non-fiction writing unit learning how to write about something we are an expert in!
- Phonics/Grammar - Next week in spelling we will talk about two more ways to make the long /i/ sound in a word by looking at the vowel team /ie/ and the trigraph /igh/.
Math
Learners will identify pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters by their value and describe the relationships among them.
Science
We will continue to identify the characteristics of seasons.
Social Studies
We will begin our Economics unit talking about the differences between needs and wants.
Weekly Announcements
- Thank you to everyone who attended the Valentine Dance last Friday. Our first Valentine dance was a huge success! Thank you to our amazing room moms for planning a wonderful celebration!!
- We do not have school on Monday - another 4 day week!
- Please don't forget to charge your child's iPad nightly.
- As the weather turns colder, please make sure your child wears a jacket to school. We will be going outside on cold days. We will follow district protocol on when we need to have indoor recess because of temperatures . Also, please write your child's name in the label of the jacket. Lost and Found gets full in the winter!
- Please make sure to look at your child's daily behavior calendar. Our goal is for the children to color in the day with the appropriate behavior. Many times, the children forget. If it is not colored, please assume it is a great day. If you see a teacher comment, we would love for you to have a conversation with your child about what happened to receive the comment. Please know many warnings were given before a comment was written. :-)
- Please review and take out all papers from their take-home folder each day.
Teacher Emails
The best way to get in touch with your teacher is by email. Please email the teacher that can best answer the subject of your question. If it is a general question, please email your homeroom teacher.

School Lunches
Every Friday families are allowed to eat lunch in the cafeteria.
District guidelines limit lunchroom visitors at the elementary level to parents, immediate family members with written permission from a parent, and campus mentors. Immediate family members are defined as the student’s parents/step-parents, siblings, grandparents, or any person residing in the home. A parent can list the person(s) who have permission to have lunch for the entire school year. If anyone other than the parent(s) listed as guardians in our district e-school system is eating with the child, we will need written documentation of your approval.
Dismissal
If you change the way your child goes home at the end of the day, please email your teacher. Children will be sent home their "usual" way unless we hear directly from a parent. Also, please make sure that the teacher has responded to your email to ensure that we got the message. If you don't hear back from your teacher, please call the office to let them know about dismissal changes.
Birthday Treats
We will celebrate your child’s birthday with a spotlight on our daily school-wide announcements and a goody bag from the school that contains several items, including a coupon for a free treat in the cafeteria.
If you choose to send birthday food treats to school, they will need to be in their original packaging that lists the ingredients. Please send the treats to our school nurse. She will look over the ingredients and then deliver them to your child's homeroom class. These treats will be sent home with the learners at the end of the day for them to enjoy at home.
Volunteering
If you think you would like to volunteer at TCE this year, please fill out the volunteer background check. The sooner the better! You can find information about how to fill out the form and the actual form on our TCE webpage. This needs to be done each. year. You will need a background check to help in the classroom, field trips, field day, etc.
