What will we be learning next week?
Language Arts
Reading: We will continue to develop and use strategies to decode words. Ask your child about Eagle Eye, Stretchy Snake, and Lips the Fish. We will also continue with our first grade sight words. We only have 13 words to learn by the end of the 9 week grading period.
Writing: We will begin our narrative writing unit where we will learn to write about one small moment in time. We will continue to use word solving strategies to help us spell.
Grammar/Phonics: Our spelling rule will be the short /i/ sound.
Math
We will continue to work with numbers up to 20 to represent them in many ways. We observe patterns in our place value system that inform us how to represent, write, and express numbers. We will use words greater than/more than, less than, equal to as they compare numbers and explain why/where they chose to place the number on the open number line.
Social Studies We will talk about how rules and laws are similar and different. Talk to your child at home about what rules are followed in your house and how you obey the laws of the community. We will also begin our Friday Mind Mission projects. This is a class favorite! During Mind Mission projects, we will learn to work cooperatively in small groups, problem solve a real problem, design/create something using a set of given supplies, learn how to plan, replan, and adjust a plan as needed. We love Mind Missions!!!
Weekly Announcements
- Please don't forget to charge your child's iPad nightly. We do not have chargers at school to charge numerous iPads. Thanks!
- Thank you to all the parents who were able to attend Curriculum Night! We loved sharing the first grade curriculum with you. If you were unable to attend, please click on the link below to see the presentation. If you have any questions, please let your homeroom teacher know. 23-24 Curriculum Night Slideshow
Great Information To Know
- Please remember to send your child's Ipad to school every day. Also, please make sure that it is charged every evening. Thank you!!
- Please make sure to look at your child's daily behavior calendar. Our goal is for the children to color in the day with the appropriate behavior. Many times, the children forget. If it is not colored, please assume it is a great day. If you see a teacher comment, we would love for you to have a conversation with your child about what happened to receive the comment. Please know many warnings were given before a comment was written. :-)
- Please review and take out all papers from their take-home folder each day.
Teacher Emails
The best way to get in touch with your teacher is by email. Please email the teacher that can best answer the subject of your question. If it is a general question, please email your homeroom teacher.

School Lunches
Who can visit my child for lunch?
Starting October 13th, every Friday families are allowed to eat lunch in the cafeteria.
District guidelines limit lunchroom visitors at the elementary level to parents, immediate family members with written permission from a parent, and campus mentors. Immediate family members are defined as the student’s parents/step-parents, siblings, grandparents, or any person residing in the home. A parent can list the person(s) who have permission to have lunch for the entire school year. If anyone other than the parent(s) listed as guardians in our district e-school system is eating with the child, we will need written documentation of your approval.
Dismissal
If you change the way your child goes home at the end of the day, please email your teacher. Children will be sent home their "usual" way unless we hear directly from a parent. Also, please make sure that the teacher has responded to your email to ensure that we got the message. If you don't hear back from your teacher, please call the office to let them know about dismissal changes.
Birthday Treats
We will celebrate your child’s birthday with a spotlight on our daily school-wide announcements and a goody bag from the school that contains several items, including a coupon for a free treat in the cafeteria.
If you choose to send birthday food treats to school, they will need to be in their original packaging that lists the ingredients. Please send the treats to our school nurse. She will look over the ingredients and then deliver them to your child's homeroom class. These treats will be sent home with the learners at the end of the day for them to enjoy at home.
Volunteering
If you think you would like to volunteer at TCE this year, please fill out the volunteer background check. The sooner the better! You can find information about how to fill out the form and the actual form on our TCE webpage. This needs to be done each. year. You will need a background check to help in the classroom, field trips, field day, etc.
