What will we be learning next week?
Language Arts
Reading: We will begin our study of traditional tales. Next week we will talk about fables and the characteristics of a fable.
Writing: We will begin our poetry unit in writing. We will learn how to visualize when writing different types of poems. We will also learn what an acrostic poem is and how to write it.
Phonics/Grammar: We will look at how silent /e/ changes the short vowel /o/ into the long vowel /o/ sound. Are you looking for some extra activities to help your child at home? We are putting some ideas on the pretest.
We will also start our study of the parts of speech. We will begin by talking about nouns and what words are nouns (person, place, thing, animal).
Unit 2 SNAP Words: big, eat, make, take, have, out, came, same, home, more, not, of, put, your, I'm, into, little, now, three, if, or, read.
Reading at Home: Providing your child reading time each night, allows them the opportunity to practice their reading strategies and grow in fluency.
Math
Learners will use objects and pictorial models to solve and generate word problems involving joining, separating, and comparing sets within 20 and unknowns in problems such as
Math Activities to do with your child
Have your child pick a two-digit number. Ask them to tell you what is 10 more or 10 less. Have a discussion with your child. Here are some questions you can ask. What is one more and one less? Is it even or odd? How many tens does your number have? Can you tell me the expanded form? What digit is in one place, etc.?
We will talk about veterans and do some activities to show how important they are to our country. We can't wait to celebrate our veterans at the Veteran's Day ceremony next Friday.
Weekly Announcements
- Please don't forget to charge your child's iPad nightly.
Great Information To Know
- We are noticing more learners are coming without fully charged iPads. Please make sure you're charging them every night AND sending the charger to school each day! Thank you for your help with this!
- Please make sure to look at your child's daily behavior calendar. Our goal is for the children to color in the day with the appropriate behavior. Many times, the children forget. If it is not colored, please assume it is a great day. If you see a teacher comment, we would love for you to have a conversation with your child about what happened to receive the comment. Please know many warnings were given before a comment was written. :-)
- Please review and take out all papers from their take-home folder each day.
Teacher Emails
The best way to get in touch with your teacher is by email. Please email the teacher that can best answer the subject of your question. If it is a general question, please email your homeroom teacher.

School Lunches
Every Friday families are allowed to eat lunch in the cafeteria.
District guidelines limit lunchroom visitors at the elementary level to parents, immediate family members with written permission from a parent, and campus mentors. Immediate family members are defined as the student’s parents/step-parents, siblings, grandparents, or any person residing in the home. A parent can list the person(s) who have permission to have lunch for the entire school year. If anyone other than the parent(s) listed as guardians in our district e-school system is eating with the child, we will need written documentation of your approval.
Dismissal
If you change the way your child goes home at the end of the day, please email your teacher. Children will be sent home their "usual" way unless we hear directly from a parent. Also, please make sure that the teacher has responded to your email to ensure that we got the message. If you don't hear back from your teacher, please call the office to let them know about dismissal changes.
Birthday Treats
We will celebrate your child’s birthday with a spotlight on our daily school-wide announcements and a goody bag from the school that contains several items, including a coupon for a free treat in the cafeteria.
If you choose to send birthday food treats to school, they will need to be in their original packaging that lists the ingredients. Please send the treats to our school nurse. She will look over the ingredients and then deliver them to your child's homeroom class. These treats will be sent home with the learners at the end of the day for them to enjoy at home.
Volunteering
If you think you would like to volunteer at TCE this year, please fill out the volunteer background check. The sooner the better! You can find information about how to fill out the form and the actual form on our TCE webpage. This needs to be done each. year. You will need a background check to help in the classroom, field trips, field day, etc.
